Reported to have a discharging wound at withers. The
cause was not immediately established. We were directed to wrong candidate
only to be told it was not the one. They were instructed to observe the
animal and report for veterinary intervention.

The case was inquired to after resuming duty from
off and it was not yet on sight. The manager was directed to beef up patrol
and locate her for examination to be done.

Reported with plain braided snare wire around the
neck strangulating and causing friction wound as it dangle down on all four
limbs. Also had a traumatic wound on the lateral side of the right elbow
joint suspected to have been caused by poachers who tried to cut it before it
broke loose the snare. It was severed using wire cutter.

Darted using 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone.
Wound was cleaned by Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. Tetracycline wound spray
was applied topically and so was Pyrethrin acaricide. 6000mgs long acting
Tetracycline was injected intramuscularly. It was revived using 75mgs
Naltrexone into jugular vein.

It had a
plain snare wire around the neck dropping down about four meters. It had no
resultant wound.

Darted using 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone. It
was immediately revived using 24mgs Diprenorphine into jugular vein.

It invaded the road interfering with smooth traffic
flow resulting to fear and panic. It had to be captured and translocate. It
was released at Mundui Estates.

Darted using 12mgs Etorphine and 180mgs Azaperone.
It was quickly loaded into a pickup. Narcosis was reversed using 48mgs
Diprenorphine intravenously.

Examined the right shoulder wound which was lastly
attended on Dec 2012 but it seems it is getting larger. Ox-perkers enlarged
the edges as they fed. She has a six month old male calf and risks separation
if darting is attempted. The dam is ampulating well to get water and fodder.
She will be reviewed after a month to ascertain the progress.

revealed that he had a wedge snare on the left hind limb and died while
struggling to free himself

Had been reported missing for four days following
gunshots incidence only to be spotted dead. Postmortem revealed three
projectile entries. One at mid brisket, another at mid left prescapular area
and last at right flank area. Two bullet heads; one at nuchal ligament and
another at right diaphragm area were recovered from the carcass which had both
horns poached. It died due to heavy internal bleeding.

Postmortems
|
|
The area had been experiencing unexplained deaths
especially of impala. Both had necrotic lesions on their lungs depicting
Pneumonia. Another very emaciated male impala was darted and lungs found to
have similar lesions as the former ones. The waterbuck and impala lungs were
taken for further analysis
|
The previously collected samples from the same suggested
parasitic pneumonia. Samples further herewith taken targets to identify the
parasite incriminated. Impala was darted using 2mgs Etorphine and 20mgs
Azaperone. It died before it was recovered and whole lung was sampled for
analysis.

He was seen being fought by other two males near a
water hole resulting to left limb swinging leg lameness several weeks ago. He
started seeking refuse near residential manyattas posing danger. Crepitation
was evident on examination at the distal tibiotarsal bone.

Was immobilized using 10mgs Etorphine and 200mgs
Azaperone. It was euthanized using 400mgs Sodium Pentobarbitone

pineapples from Lake Nakuru National Park for toxicology analysis at
Government Chemist and University of Nairobi. These were suspected to have
been used as baits for the rhinos at the Park.

wire around the neck. No resultant trauma was noted. Both were desnared by
loosening the snare snoop and taking it off the neck.

It was sighted limping and suspected to have snare.
It was followed and found not to have any snare but had lameness on the right

One was found writhing in pain and the other one
dead near an electrical fence. Burn signs were evident when the animals were
examined especially on the limbs indicating they possibly tried to jump the
fence.

The administration of the flower farm was instructed
to incorporate pulse meter in their fence system so that the fence can
repulse animals instead of killing them. Inspection to that effect will be
conducted later.

were trimmed; one female had been trimmed in Last December. Others were less
than two year old and had relatively small horns

|
|
Carried out a postmortem on a female white rhino at
Oserian. She had been trimmed the previous day before she was attempted to be
poached. She sustained two bullet wounds; one on the right side just post
scapular into abdominal cavity and at the lumbar area on the left side near
spine before she plunged into a gorge and died instantly. One solid at
abdominal area had ruptured the left liver lobe and one soft bullet heads at
spine were recovered. Trophies were taken to Hells Gate National Park for
safe custody.

Called in by the Naivasha Investigation team to help
in identifying the snakes which were suspected to have been smuggled by a
foreigner. The foreigner David Simon Harris had landed from Germany less than
24hrs before arrest.

The smuggler was convicted and committed to jail for
five years with no option of fine at Naivasha law courts

Spotted ‘immobilized’ at a tree vide plain snare
wire which had snared left hind limb causing serious traumatic wound and
ended up entangling the right hind limb. Wound was cleaned with hydrogen
Peroxide and Iodine. Tetracycline wound spray was applied topically as
12000mgs of tetracycline was injected intramuscularly.

ear. It was irritating as it kept on shaking the head resulting to more

Deaths Investigation
|
|
Investigated on reported buffalos death at Lake
Nakuru National Park. No fresh carcass was found and they were advised to
report promptly on the same. Eleven Herds at different areas where carcasses
had been spotted were investigated and no signs of illness were noted.

She was reported to have attempted to calve the
previous day but failed. The fetus ended up dying at vulva opening. The dystochia
was due to malpresentation whereby the left fore limb had elbow flexor. It
was manipulated manually and extended the flexed limb before calf was pulled
by use of rope.

It was darted using 15mgs Etorphine and 30mgs
Azaperone. It was revived immediately it was down by use of 48mgs
Diprenorphine into jugular vein. Tetracycline Long acting 30000mgs was used
as antibacterial cover. 50mgs of Dexamethasone was used as anti-inflamatory.

Was reported lame. It was found to have a coronet
traumatic wound on left hind limb medially. It was cleaned using Hydrogen
Peroxide and Iodine. Tetracycline wound spray was applied topically. 3000mgs
of Amoxicillin was injected intramuscularly. the Treated an injured zebra at
Kigio Wildlife Conservancy Community area and translocated it to Kigio
Wildlife Conservancy

Was darted with 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone.
It was captured and translocated to the nearby Kigio Conservancy where it was
released since out there it was subject to game meat due to surrounding
community
