A stray flamingo was spotted at a water hole within the conservancy. It was weak probably due to exhaustion. It was captured manually and released at Lake Oloiden where it was thought to have come from. It joined the rest within the vicinity

Had a plain wire snare on the right hind limb at metatarsus. Had resulted to a traumatic ring wound. It was desnared and resultant wound treated. It had a chance to survive
Immobilized using 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone. Wound was cleaned with Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. 6000mgs Tetracycline, 10mgs Dexamethasone intramuscularly and wound spray. Revived using 18mgs Diprenorphine intravenous

Reported off feed for three days. Had vomited and diarrhead once. Treated tentatively for constipation. 100ml liquid paraffin as Enema; 100ml dextrose Infusion fluid were administered 12000mgs Penicillin antibiotic and 6mgs Ivermectin dewormer plus 20cc Multivitamin appetite inducer were administered 6mgs Ivermectin dewormer plus 20cc Multivitamin appetite inducer were administered
Immobilized using 100mgs Zoletil and 4mgs medetomidine. The exercise took 40 minutes and the lioness was revived after 90 minutes following immobilization with 15mgs Atipamezole. They were advised to oil the meat with Olive Oil twice a week. Next day she was reported to have consumed three kilo liver

He accompanied cattle from the nearby forest as cattle went back to homestead a year ago. Several attempts have been made to take it back to forest but end up returning to homestead. He became a nuisance during this season as he breaks fences and graze on maize and beans in the nearby farms.

Had a lameness on the left fore limb caused by a swelling on the lateral side of carpal joint. The clear viscous fluid was drained by making an opening at lower side of the swelling to allow drainage. The abscess was drained and cleaned using hydrogen peroxide and iodine. He is under observation for any recurrent
Immobilized using 10mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone. 15000mg Penicillin antibiotic and 10mgs Ivermectin anthelminthic covers were done, 40cc Multivitamin and 20cc Pyrethroid acaricide were applied. He was revived using 30mgs Diprenorphine intravenously

Reported weak and alopecic gluteals. Found to have a lot of lice infestation and probable mange strike. Was treated for mange and skin scrapings sampled for more investigation at KWS Vet Lab. She will be reviewed after one month
Darted using 9mgs Etorphine and 30mgs Azaperone.  12000mgs Tetracycline antibiotic, 30cc Multivit intramuscularly, 20cc Pyrethroid acaricide topically, 10mgs Ivermectin subcutaneously were administered. She was revived using 30mgs Diprenorphine.

Observed with alopecic patches on the flanks both sides. It was also pruritic. Was treated for mange and skin scrapings were sampled for confirmation at KWS Vet Lab
Immobilized using 3mgs Etorphine and 20mgs Azaperone. 3mgs Ivermectin subcutaneously, 6000mgs Penicillin and 15cc Multivit intramuscularly, 10cc Pyrethroid topically were administered. He is under observation.

Was pruritic and alopecic especially on the flanks. It succumbed before it was attended to as it took long to locate it after darting.

Had a wedge snare wire around the left fore limb at metacarpus. Had caused severe traumatic wound. It was desnared and resultant wound treated
Each darted using 6mgs Etorphine and 40mgs Azaperone. The wounded one was treated with 4500mgs Tetracycline intramuscularly, Wound cleaned with Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine, wound tetracycline spray was applied
 Each was revived using  18mgs Diprenorphine intravenously

Had a braided plain snare wire on the neck. It was desnared. A maggot infested penetrating wound was noted on lateral side of hock joint on the left hind limb. It was treated systemically and locally.
Narcotized using 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone. The wound was cleaned using Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. Opticlox penicillin cream was infiltrated into the wound. 6000mgs Penicillin antibiotic intramuscularly and 6mgs Ivermectin subcutaneously were administered. It was revived from narcosis using 18mgs Diprenorphine.

Spotted with a wedge snare wire around the neck. Upon examination it was found to have caused an abscess at the mid neck ventrally. The snare wire was taken off the neck and abscess managed as an open wound by making an opening at the most ventral point to allow free drainage. Thick creamy tenacious discharge was expressed from the abscess
Darted using Etorphine Azaperone mixture of 6 and 40mgs respectively. 4500mgs Tetracycline Hydrochloride intramuscularly, abscesses was cleaned using Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine and tetracycline wound spray infiltrated into the pocket. 6mgs Ivermectine subcutaneously

Had a fixed hips making ambulation impossible. On examination it was evident that it was due to labor. It was massaged through the rectum and fetus repulsed into abdomen. She was left to continue with labor since the cervix had not opened. The difficult ambulation was also contributed to overgrown hooves. Hoof trimming was done on all four limbs using hoof trimmer
Immobilized using 6mgs Etorphine and 30mgs Azaperone. It was revived using  18mgs Diprenorphine intravenously on the jugular vein

Had a circular alopecic area on the right thigh area. Some pin point raised areas resembling the large patch were noted on the distal limb areas on all four limbs. Deep skin scrapings were sampled and sent to KWS Vet Lab for analysis. It will be reviewed after two weeks
Immobilized using 10mgs Detomidine and 4mgs Etorphine. 6000mgs Penicillin and 20cc Multivit intramuscularly, 10mgs Ivermectin subcutaneously, and tetracycline wound spray was applied on the patch. It was revived using 75mgs Naltrexone and 5mgs Atipamezole.

Had a plain wire snare on the fore right limb at fetlock joint. Had caused traumatic wound. It was desnared and resultant wound treated topically and systemically
Darted using 6mgs Etorphine and 40 mgs Azaperone. Wound was cleaned using Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. 4000mgs Penicillin was injected intramuscularly and 8mgs Ivermectin Subcutaneously. Wound spray was applied on the wound. Revived using 18mgs Diprenorphine.

Had a large wound on the anterior surface of the left hind limb metatarsus and had a canal leading to the lateral side. It was treated topically and systemically. To be reviewed later to assess the response.
Immobilized using 6mgs Etorphine and 50mgs Azaperone. It was cleaned using Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. 12000mgs Penicillin and 5cc Dexamethasone were administered intramuscularly. Tetracycline wound spray was applied liberally. Reversed using 18mgs Diprenorphine into jugular vein

Baboon Attack


Had been attacked by a troop of baboons. Passersby rescued him and called for assistance. It had sustained skin tears at left hock joint posteriorly, at withers and around the face. He was sutured at hock joint and other wounds treated as open wounds. Systemic antibiotics and ant-inflammatory were administered. It is under observation at clinic and to be released after healing. To be released after treatment
The anesthesia was done locally around the wound by use of lignocaine. The area was cleaned using surgical spirit and shaved. Nylon suture No. 3 attached on cutting needle was used. Simple interrupted sutures were applied 6 in number. Skin edges juxtaposed very well. 2cc Flunixin Meglumine and 150mgs Penicillin was intramuscularly injected. Wound spray was applied topically.

Fact Finding Mission


A fact finding mission was launched to find out why no case reports had been made. It was established that everything was ok. This is due to the plenty of grass and water making poaching not forthcoming

Had an open wound laterally just above right hock joint. It was suspected to have been caused by hyena attack. It was treated systemically and locally.
Immobilized using 12mgs Etorphine and 180mgs Azaperone. Injected 7500mgs Tetracycline Intramuscularly, cleaned wound with Hydrogen Peroxide and Iodine. Tetracycline wound spray was applied. Was revived using 36mgs Diprenorphine.

Being some of poaching hot spot, they were visited to ascertain why there are no cases reported. All was confirmed to be well and no snare case was spotted.

Postmortem


Found on left lateral recumbency with two horns precisely removed. Two gunshot wounds were observed on the right scapular. The carcass had begun to be predated on. The carcass was about 48hrs old.
One wound at almost top of scapular was followed and caused spine injury at cervical no. 4 before exiting on the right side. The other one went in through the right caudal lung lobe and left one, hit scapular at anterior third and settled under the skin on the left scapular. One bullet head was recovered. The animal died of cardiorespiratory failure.

Deep digital flexor tendon-Flexion


She has been monitored over the last six months from time she was heavily pregnant to now when the foal is about five months old. The deep digital flexor tendon having been short led to flexion and knuckling of the fetlock joint limiting ambulation and impacting stress.
Darted using a mixture of Etorphine and Detomidine as 6 and 10mgs respectively. To reduce the suffering the animal was euthanized using 400mgs Sodium Pentobarbitone
